Our Objective What We Do

Nigerian Community (WF)'s mission is to provide channels through which social, political and economic issues affecting Nigerians can be addressed. We aim to do these by employing a structured united front on the one hand that will deal with the establishment and on the other hand utilizing the bond of humanity and culture that binds us all together.
To be the prominent source of Information, Advice and Guidance for Nigerians in the Borough and those around its vicinity on issues and programmes that affect their lives. These could be on an individual level or through a family representation. Drawing strength from our global diversity, resources and experiences, we will promote innovative solutions and encourage global responsibility. We will facilitate lasting change through our main tenets listed below:

    Our Main Tenets

  • Strengthening Capacity For Self-Help

  • Providing Economic Opportunity

  • Delivering Relief In Emergencies

  • Influencing Policy Decisions At All Levels

  • Addressing Discrimination In All Its Forms

WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP

We will work in partnership with NGOs, charitable organisations and local government to develop services in response to the needs of local residents - the infirm, elderly, children, young people and family groups.

WHAT WE DO

Nigerian Community (WF) is presently engaged in various capacities to tackle underlying causes of social disintegration and exclusion through established Government channels. We also partake with other organisations to create permanent social change with special emphasis on improving basic education, preventing the spread of HIV, increase access to government, expanding economic opportunities, the building of good communities and the provision of aids to collectively make people more self-sufficient while building their lives.

It is our intention also to have a comprehensive database of all Nigerians currently residing in the borough and its environs. Its main function will be to disseminate important and emergency information to those designated. It will also be used as a social service where contact for friends and love ones lost in the diaspora can be located.

Knowledge is Power. NICOWF enhances and supports the education of willing students, who wish to further their studies in higher education. NICOWF provides academic supports through one-to-one and group studies (Saturday classes). This in the main, is towards GCSE/GCE preparations. There is public enlightenment programme to help individuals in need of knowledge of mother tongue languages - mainly in Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba. Many have benefited from past programmes and records of achievement exist to support this. Contact us about your needs, information on future classes and assistance will be made available to you.

HEALTH:

Health is Wealth. A virus has been sweeping the world for the past four decades causing a disease which has killed millions of people and which looks likely to kill millions more, it is a virus called HIV, meaning Human Immunodeficiency Virus. This virus attacks and damages the immune system and causes a variety of symptoms known as AIDS. The extent of this AIDS crisis has become clear in many developing countries and more recently in the developed countries as the world continues to shrink into a global village. NICOWF had partnered with organizations' and the National Health Services to bring the awareness of this festering epidemic to the community by organizing Health Awareness Meetings. A United Nations report speculated that the impact of the AIDS epidemic on our societies will be felt most strongly in the course of the next ten years and beyond, hence our commitment not to relent efforts in enlightening the community on the social and economic consequences in the health, education, industry, agriculture, transport, human resources and the economy in general. Contact us for information on the next awareness meeting and resource for help and assistance.

HOUSING:

Good Home ! Good Wellbeing NICOWF believes that everyone should have a home. Is it impossibility? No! Housing is never sufficient because demands in the community far exceed supply. The government has underestimated the number of people, who are homeless and either sleeping rough or squatting and most governments are not genuinely interested in the plight of these people who sleeps in disused buildings, cars, parks and waste grounds because they are difficult to monitor. NICOWF maintains contact with people in this situation, we advice and assist by mediating on their behalf for the purpose of achieving a suitable accommodation. Contact us about your needs, information and assistance.

IMMIGRATION:

Your Status Your Legal Rights NICOWF subscribes to the objectives of the Home Office, to protect the public, and build a safe, just and tolerant society. We provide purposive advice to reduce time in the remind centres and meet the legitimate expectation of our clients. Our aim is to serve in a capacity of a service provider towards issues of immigration, give information, advice and guidance on entry, variation and credibility of purpose leading to cost saving measures for the government. Contact us about your needs, information and assistance.

FAMILY CONNECTS:

Blood is thicker than water. The family unit despite increasing variation in definition still remains a unifying strong force for humanity. The world as is popularly coined these days is a global village. One can easily get confuse with the noun (word) village thinking is a euphemism for small and compact. Neither is it compact nor small. Information and Telecommunication technology without doubt has eased the means by which we communicate. However, these same technologies and other by-products are responsible for the dislocation of our social fabric. People are increasingly living on their own, find employment far a field and having interracial marriages. These in the main, have led to the present day diversity we have become acquainted with. Human by and large still crave for their ancestral genealogy. As mentioned earlier blood being thicker than water has an uncanny ability of forcing one to go looking for long lost relative they have abandoned for one reason or another. NICOWF is facilitating communication between families and indindividuals. We provide supports, encouragement, celebrate happy reunion of family members. Are you missing your loved ones (child/parents/nephews, aunties, etc)? We can link you up through our network of contacts both here and abroad. Contact us about your needs and assistance, and we shall do the rest.

WELFARE:

Be Your Brother/Sister's Keeper A good life is not all about how much money you have but how to manage what is available to make life comfortable and bearable. NICOWF provides personal advice on welfare matters and prioritize referrals to save time. We organize recreational activities (dance, story telling, picnic, social gatherings, amongst others) to ease off pressure. Contact us about your needs, information and assistance.
