Objectives

The Nigerian Community Waltham Forest (NICOWF) is a charitable organisation born out of the necessity to foster and strengthen the bonds among Nigerians living in the borough. According to records, Nigerians settled in the area as far back as 1891. The current electoral register shows that about 4,500 Nigerians live in the borough. This figure ranks the Nigerian Community one of the largest in the area..

Services

The organisation is dedicated to the improvement and empowerment of Black People in general and those of Nigerian descent in particular. We provide advice, support, guidance, counseling, advocacy and representation services for the aforementioned group. Now that we are up and running, our immediate task is to get as much publicity as possible of which you have an important role...

We believe that not only was an organisation of this nature overdue in this borough, but come to think of it, how miraculous that we got along without it. The Nigerian contingent here is of a size that an effective quorum can be initiated to influence decisions made at the local authority and beyond. Join NICOWF to continue the good work so far achieved and to increase the social activities offered..

Good Health Promotion

The Nigerian Community Waltham Forest (NICOWF) decided after a detailed and sometimes rumbustious delibrations to organise a good health seminar . This was born out of the necessity to reduce the growing national endemic in obesity and the lack of basic information on Cardiovascular Diseases (CVD). Our initiative here was very local in intent and in practice.....

Summer Sporting Activities

Local kids in the borough by and large tend to loiter in the shopping centres and local park areas aimlessly. we thought a regular summer football tournament for kids between 10-16 years old will keep them occupied in and enviroment conducive to learning and disciplne but also as a way of exercising to fight obesity.....

National Day Celebration

. The Nigerian contingent in the borough is of a size that an effective and organised grouping can be and instrument for change in the borough - influencing decisions made at the local authority. We have started with an annual celebration of "Nigerian Independence Day (1st October 1960)" at the Town Hall. RSVP apenty.....

Nigerian Embassies

Nigeria (a.k.a Naija) known as "the Giant of Africa", is the most populous country in Africa and the seventh most populous country in the world. Its oil reserves have brought great revenues to the country. Nigeria's economy is the second largest in Africa, and the 37th largest in the world as of 2012 [Wold Bank index]. Thus, its diplomatic missions play an important role for those in the diaspora.

Nigerian President

Muhammadu Buhari has been sworn in as Nigeria's president, promising to bring "increased prosperity" to Africa's most populous country. He is the first opposition figure to win a presidential election in Nigeria since independence in 1960. "I belong to everybody and I belong to nobody", he told cheering crowds at the inauguration in the capital, Abuja. He vowed to tackle "head on" the issues of corruption .
